Just 4 hours a month can change a young person's life!

When I was a little girl, I grew up at the Jersey Shore. Below is a story that my Dad used to share with me

and one that the Mentoring Programs used during training.

"The Starfish Flinger"

As an old man walked the beach at dawn, he noticed a young child ahead of him picking up starfish and

flinging them into the sea. Finally catching up with the youth, he asked why they were doing this.

The answer was: the stranded starfish would die if left in the sun.

"But the beach goes on for miles and there are thousands of starfish" countered the older man.

"How can your effort make any difference?"

The young child looked at the starfish in their hand and threw it safely into the waves.

"It makes a difference to this one" the child said.
