Keeping Healthy During Your Career Search-Mental and Physical

"WHAT GIVES YOU ENERGY?"

"For each of us, certain people, places, and activities inspire and energize us. The more we know what those are, the more we can choose to bring those into our lives. Take a few moments to write a list of things, people, places, circumstances, that give you a boost, make you feel more alive. Then be sure to incorporate them into your week."

from the book: 365 Energy Boosters by Suzannah Seton and Sondra Kornblatt

"FEAR"

The great playright, Sophocles said : "When we are afraid, everything rustles". So when we are afraid, suddenly it starts looking like there are lots of things around to be afraid of. I must admit that I have succumbed to this a time or two myself. Then I think of what Franklin D. Roosevelt said: "The Only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Some tools that I have used that may help you to overcome the natural tendency to be afraid, especially during a career search are: reading the bible, prayer, breathwork, getting close to nature, listening to music that I find upbeat, positve self talk/happy talk, laughing and joking, surround yourself with positive people and continual gathering of knowledge/reading. "STATISTICS"

Unemployed? Don't give up hope. When Americans lose their jobs, only 10% are still out of work a year later. That figure is 20% in Britain, more than 30% in Japan an France, and it's about 50% in Germany. Italy has it even worse, with almost 60% of its jobless out of work for more than a year.

Here is some feedback from some clients in career transition when asked: How long have you been seriously looking?

"It took almost 4 months to get a job. I started in Jan. 2003 and am still there. Got the job through networking (was recommended for the position by a former boss). The interview was basically a sales pitch TO me, asking me to take the job. At the same time, I got an offer from cold calling and internet job searches as you taught me. It was nice to have a choice. Over those 3 months of no real prospects and rejections for jobs that were not a great fit to begin with, things looked bleak...AND THEN 2 Good offers! Candidates should not give up hope since you never know when things will change in your favor". Eric M., former Laboratory Manager with a Chemical company

"It took me 2 weeks to land a good job, which even surprised me. However I knew God would provide for me. I was seriously pursuing jobs the moment I walked out the door at XYZ Company. I completely believe part of my success was never burning bridges so that old contacts can lead to new ones". Kalin D., former Colleaue Support with a REIT
