Mission Statement & Biography

It's about passion, doing what you were meant to do, about being rewarded and fulfilled, and 'walking the talk'. The purpose and mission of the founder of the BDI Group and its partners is to help each individual find their passion and purpose and to follow that dream and then educate them on how to manage the campaign to achieve that goal.
“People do best what they best like to do”. “The talent of success is nothing more than doing what you can do well, and doing well whatever you do”. Longfellow
Karen studied pre-veterinary medicine for 3 years. She had the desire, grades and financial backing to fulfill her lifelong dream (picture shows Karen at age 4 - far left, active in the ASPCA). While at college, Karen received an unexpected call from her hometown veterinarian asking permission to euthanize her pure bred Siberian Husky that had an incurable illness. Realizing this would be an integral ‘part of the job’ she decided to regroup and considered a degree in zoology. After researching her options, she focused on getting an MLS and planned on targeting the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Moving from helping animals to people.
Upon graduation from graduate school, finding a job proved to be a challenge with a 13% unemployment rate in her home state. Choosing to stay in the DC metro area, Karen had a successful 14 year career in a variety of top scientific and medical research libraries such as Smithsonian Institution, National Institutes of Health’s National Library of Medicine, Prince George’s Hospital & Medical Center, University of Maryland’s Health Sciences Library, USDA’s National Agricultural Library, and later in Georgia at the Southern Polytechnic University.
Then, in 1989 after 2 years of pounding the pavement, Karen raised $3 milllion to begin the predecessor to what became the likes of websites such as www.bibliofind.com prior to the popularity of the internet.
In 1993, after 'outplacing' herself from her own company, Karen went back to school for new studies and in 1994 became active in the career transition industry with a premiere Atlanta based outplacement company. She has worked with over 6,000 individuals one-on-one and in small and large groups from college bound to C-level executives to professionals and executives to athletes to semi-retired to entrepreneurs and upcoming graduates.
