11 Questions to ask before choosing a career consultant/career transition advisor:

1) How long have you been in the career transition consulting business?
2) How many people have you worked with personally, taking them though their career transition and what does that typically look like?
3) What sorts of jobs/industries have the people you coached had or been in?
4) May I see your resume? If they cannot show you one, ask them to tell you about the jobs they have held, what industries/companies they were in/with, their job titles and dates at each.
5) When was the last time you searched for a job?
6) Have you ever been laid off, quit a job, started a business, been an entrepreneur, owned a franchise?
7) May I see some sample resumes of people you have worked with?
8) May I call some references of clients? Do you have any testimonials?
9) What career assessments do you have access to and what do they cost?
10) How do you differentiate yourself from others?
